Otocast app debuts with 6 mobile audio tours
Mobile service is like having a your guide in your ear at all times.
In the exhibit, 40 benches have been decorated by local artists and placed around downtown Stamford, CT. The Otocast app provides a visual catalog of the benches as well as descriptive text, photos, directions and additional narration provided by the the artists themselves.
In addition to Stamford, the app also includes tours of lower Manhattan, Central Park and a botanic garden in New Brunswick, Canada. "I wanted to include a variety of tours in the initial release, so people would understand that the app could be used for any sort of guide - art, architecture, gardens, hostorical sites - anything where people could use more information to gain a better understanding of their surroundings,"
An upcoming release of the app will include integration with social media services such as Facebook and Twitter and provide improved search functionaliies as the innventory of content increases. Columbia, MO and Hamilton, OH are next to be included. Both of these town are adopting the app as a better way to promote their permanent public art collections. The app is allows them to update the guides within a few hours if pieces are added or removed from the collection, as opposed to the current processes requiring printing and re-printing maps, which can quickly become outdated.
