Announcing the Opening of Sottomarino Winery in San Francisco

Treasure Island’s New Urban Winery & Tasting Room in a “Submarine”
By: Sottomarino Winery

SAN FRANCISCO - June 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Sottomarino Winery, an urban winery in San Francisco’s Wine Country on Treasure Island, is excited to announce their opening to the public this Saturday, June 14th. Translated to "Submarine" in Italian, Sottomarino's tasting room is housed in an original World War II submarine-like training vessel with breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay waterfront and the Bay Bridge.

Focused on all Italian varietals, Sottomarino is currently releasing the following wines: 2013 Pinot Grigio (SRP $18), 2013 Muscat Canelli (SRP $20), 2013 Primitivo (SRP $32), and 2013 Lagrein (SRP $36). A Sangiovese, Dolcetto and Super Tuscan blend are scheduled for release later this year.

The Sottomarino tasting room has an urban industrial feel with authentic Naval parts and markings still intact from when it was used as a training vessel in World War II. It's a captivating, mysterious and historically significant space that has been completely transformed into a fun, wine tasting experience.

The tasting room consists of separate spaces – the “submarine” and the “submarine deck.” In the “submarine,” guests can explore the World War II damage control training module used by the U.S. Navy, often referred to as the USS Buttercup. Up top on the “submarine deck,” guests can sit down, relax and enjoy their wine with a spectacular view of the San Francisco Bay waterfront. The “submarine deck” will also be available to host private parties.

“We’re extremely thrilled to open Sottomarino to the public. This is a project that we’ve been working on for quite some time, and we’re so excited to finally share this unique piece of history with people of the Bay Area and beyond,” says Co-Winemaker & “Capo” (Chief), David Frazier. “Sottomarino is a place for the imagination to run free, bringing together old-world style wines with new world ideas.”

Sottomarino’s opening to the public will be on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 12pm – 5pm. Moving forward, the tasting room will be open Saturday & Sunday, 12pm – 5pm. Sottomarino is located on Treasure Island at 400 California Avenue, Building 2, San Francisco, CA 94130 and can be reached at 415.967.4200.

In addition to wine tasting on the weekends, Sottomarino will also be available to rent for private events (contact: Allison Goldman at events@sottomarinowinery.com).
