ICRS News: John Avery’s Book, The Name Quest, Explores God’s Character, Helps Believers Grow
The Name Quest will be available at the International Christian Retailers’ Show (ICRS) in Atlanta, June 22-25, 2014 at booth #1334. John Avery will sign books on Monday, June 23rd, from 1-2 pm at booth #1334.
Fifteen years of writing and research are behind this reflective and integrative exploration of all the names of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit found in the Bible. As readers immerse themselves in the pages of The Name Quest, they will enjoy seeing how the theme of God’s names flows through the entire Bible and glean rich insights on how to grow in their relationship with God. Floyd McClung, International Director, All Nations, writes of The Name Quest: “No one has ever met God completely or exhaustively. But God invites you to know Him. Like a clear trail in a forest, the names of God lead you deeper into the heart of God. In his book, The Name Quest, John Avery leads us deeper into God’s heart.”
Though some works take an encyclopedic approach, cataloguing the names of God and presenting information in a rather dry manner, and others have used a devotional approach that can be shallow and selective, Avery examines God’s names in clusters, around common themes. Each chapter explores a different aspect of God’s nature and the meaning of the names reflecting that nature. “God is a personality too integrated and dynamic to dissect or compartmentalize,”
In the context of reflections on the names of God, Avery digs into tough subjects: What does the title “God of gods” mean and who are Satan and his demonic forces? What exactly is “glory”? How should Christians relate to people of other religious beliefs in an age of tolerance and multiculturalism?
Sam Skillern, of Salem Leadership Foundation, writes: “What’s in a name? John Avery takes us on the ultimate exploration of the Ultimate Name. With both exhaustive research and engaging narrative, John’s work and wit will be a blessing to any sojourner’s quest. Layperson, teacher, and serious seeker alike will be challenged and edified.”
John Avery is a trained teacher with over thirty years’ experience as a Bible teaching pastor, small group leader, and missionary. He has lived in England, Israel, Africa, and the Caribbean, ministering with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and local churches. He and his wife, Janet, now make their home in Oregon. John likes to hike, snowshoe, and cross country ski. John writes a regular Bible devotional on www.BibleMaturity.com and maintains a comprehensive resource for all the names of God at www.NamesForGod.net.
The launch of The Name Quest will be powered by a coordinated, broad-based PR and marketing campaign, featuring Ingram Publisher Services to all major booksellers, advertising and special promotions (Internet and other), multiple blog tours, 100-200 reviewers, a series of local book signings, and free e-book offers.
