-- Department of Communication Studies JIMS, Vasant Kunj, affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University is organizing a 3 days JIMS Doctoral Research Symposium-cum-
Workshop in Media and Communication Studies from June 12 to 14, 2014. The Symposium is being organized against the backdrop of the difficulties faced by mass communication teachers in initiating the process of doctoral research. The difficulties range from the indecision in regard to the possible area of research to the specific subject which could be legitimately researched and the manner in which it could be formalized in the form of a viable research proposal that would carry weight and earn acceptance.
The Programme intends to equip participants with the knowledge of the wide array of areas in which research can be genuinely carried out and help participants with determining the specific subject in which they are best suited to carry out their doctoral research. It also intends to provide them with methodological insights suitable for the various research areas, and
help them draft a viable research proposal that will stand the test of time
The Programme will seek to lead participants into the nuances of research in the following areas : Globalization and Diaspora Studies, Semiotic Analysis of Communication Texts, Technologies of Self and Peace Communication, Mass Media and Development Narratives, Media Economics and New Media, Mediated Participatory Practices, Media and the Construction of Identities, Theory building and Interrogation of Communication Theory, Media and the Political Discourse, Agenda Setting and The Indian Public Sphere, Mediated and Oral Communication Networks, New Media and the Post-industrial society, Gender Discourse and Human Rights, Indian Cinema and Realism. Some of the experts are Prof. Biswajit Das, Dr Sushree Panigarahi, Dr Ravi K Dhar, Dr C P Singh, Dr Jayati Srivastava, Dr Kulveen Trehan, Dr Anubhuti Yadav, Dr Vipul Mudgal, Dr Saima Saeed, Dr Veena Hariharan
With 8 higher educational institutes of academic excellence in Delhi NCR and 3 in Rajasthan, on one of which, Jagannath University has been established through an Act of Rajasthan Assembly as a private university at Jaipur, and another private university by the same name at Bahadurgarh, Haryana, the JIMS group of educational institutions have been gradually spreading their reach outwards to enroll around 10,000 students for various degree programmes.
