MIAMI - June 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Despite stereotypes that Miami has no homegrown cultural leaders or that Northern metropolis like New York and Chicago have the corner market on young talent, Whitney Kimmel is paving the way for Miami’s burgeoning future.

It is no secret that Miami is a “young” city, still finding its place in the cultural landscape of the United States; but with the help of Generation Y’s up-and-coming leaders like Kimmel, Miami is poised to become a hub for international business, art, and culture.

For proof, look no further than Kimmel’s most recent successes. After graduating with her MBA from the University of Miami in May and taking on a new role as Web Merchandising Specialist for Norwegian Cruise Line, Kimmel was named one of South Florida Business Journal’s People on the Move ( This season, she was also elected as the Vice President of the Young Associates of Coral Gables Museum, Chair of the Annual Fund for Junior League of Miami, and will serve her second year as an Executive Committee Member for Friends of the New World Symphony (

“I came to Miami on a business trip in 2010, and was blown away by the opportunities for young professionals to make a meaningful impact on their community. It hasn’t ‘all been done’ here before, and what we do today, will have a lasting impact on tomorrow,” she explains.

Kimmel was born in Pennsylvania, but came to Miami after serving with the United States Peace Corps in Cambodia from 2008-2010. During her time in Southeast Asia, she raised several thousand dollars in partnership with USAID to host two weekend long girls’ leadership camps, an HIV/AIDS education program, and an environmental awareness fair. Upon arriving in Miami, she wasted no time in beginning to affect change in her new community. Last year, Kimmel helped host civic-social events with the Young Associates that raised over $40,000 for the Coral Gables Museum. She looks forward to capitalizing on her new leadership roles this summer to “inspire other young professionals to take pride in their city.”

In addition to pursuing her passion for service, Kimmel recently competed in and placed in the University of Miami annual Business Plan Competition (, is an active member of her high school alma mater Saint James School’s alumni council, and Phi Beta Kappa scholastic national honor society.
