What is Airtime?
Airtime is the actual time spent talking on a mobile phone or on the internet. This is the time measured by mobile phone operators (or via internet providers) when they calculate your bill. It is typically measured in minutes for voice calls. The price of VoIP airtime varies from route to route depending on the country where air time minutes are being terminated, hence a British mobile phone user will be charged significantly more per minute when using their phone abroad.

VoIP airtime can be bought and pre-sold to operators at a profit dependent on the sellers buying power, i.e. a mobile phone provider will purchase bulk minutes from VOIPTEL, the mobile provider will then agree a pre-purchase order by providing an irrevocable letter of credit stating a set date with respect to payment.

VOIPTEL can determine the exact date that all airtime trades complete, which allows VOIPTEL to focus on expanding their buying power via the retail client. The focus for VOIPTEL is to increase buying power and then in turn look to reduce the purchase price and allow a larger percentage gain to be passed on to the retail client. VOIPTEL solely focuses on a niche market worldwide where large providers do not have airtime routes, allowing all pre-sold purchases to be passed on to the retail client at the beginning and guaranteeing an exit date. There's a good chance that you're already making VoIP calls any time you place a long distance call.

Phone companies use VoIP to streamline their networks. By routing thousands of phone calls through a circuit switch and into an IP gateway, they can seriously reduce the bandwidth they're using for the long haul. Once the call is received by a gateway on the other side of the call, it's decompressed, reassembled and routed to a local circuit switch. Although it will take some time, you can be sure that eventually all of the current circuit-switched networks will be replaced with packet-switching technology.
