Inaugural Vet Noise Event Raises more than $1000 for Wounded Wear

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - June 10, 2014 - PRLog -- In March, Barbara Sgueglia, Director/Associate Broker of the Hampton Roads Military Relocation Team (HRMRT) at 1st Class Real Estate in Virginia Beach, had an idea.

"We used to have a small event once a month called 'Cocktails for a Cause' that I wanted to build on. I thought we could do something on a bigger scale, and raise more money for charities than we had in the past," Barbara said.

Beer always makes things bigger. She contacted Thomas Wilder at Young Veteran's Brewing Company and pitched her idea to him: if they would host a monthly event and give some of their sales to a veteran-related charity (a different one each month), she and her team would work to get the real estate community involved, provide marketing and some raffle prizes, with the ultimate goal of raising as much money as possible for the chosen charity.

Thomas's answer: a resounding YES! Not only yes, but he envisioned an event bigger than Barbara had dreamed. So with his go-ahead, and a bit of brainstorming within an HRMRT meeting, Vet Noise was born. After two months of planning, momentum built to bring the inaugural event during a special (and quite fitting) Memorial Day weekend. There was a tremendous turn-out, and the event raise more than $1,000 for Wounded Wear. It was a remarkable show of support.

The attendees had a great time and enjoyed a beautiful Virginia Beach day. Prizes valued at over $4,500 were raffled off; massage therapists were on-site, giving chair massages (also for donations); two musicians donated their time to perform for the crowd; guests played corn hole; and the food truck sold outstanding island food.

Vet Noise is not just an event, it’s a movement. Through the Vet Noise outreach, HRMRT and YVBC are bringing awareness to veteran-related issues: lives lost, wounded warriors, PTSD, TBI, homelessness, etc. The last Sunday of every month, YVBC and the Hampton Roads Military Relocation Team will host a fundraiser for a different veteran-related charity.
