What’s Left to calve a short film

LOS ANGELES - June 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Everyone puts on social masks here and there – some more than others. But what happens when Halloween comes along, and a second costume is set over the mask? It might be too much to handle. What’s Left of October is a short comedy that takes place under that determined set of circumstances. Brazilian journalist and documentary director Matias Lovro has started a crowdfunding campaign to fund his debut in fiction storytelling with the short, currently in its pre-production stage. Shooting will take place 18-21 of July in Los Angeles, CA.

Mask over social mask is a mix bound to implode – at least for people like senior high schooler Sam Taylor, protagonist of the story and host of this year’s wild Halloween bash. Sam is not one of those kids who sits in the back of the class wreaking havoc. Yet, he doesn’t sit up front, next to Zitty McBugger either. “Sam sits in the middle of the class, just like most of us, if you think about it probability-wise,” explains the writer and director. “But he thinks he should be something else. I feel like there’s a bit of Sam in each of us, and I just wanna tell him that he’s fine the way he is.”

This night, however, Sam is a rockstar. He’s got the party, everyone is there. He’s got the rock’n’roll outfit, just like his classic icons. And he’s pretty close to getting the girl. But the 17-year old doesn’t seem too comfortable at the center stage. When a teen-spirited middled aged neighbor talks his way into the party and steals the spotlight, his world will begin to fall apart.

With location and crew set, and casting underway, what’s left are the three weeks to the end of the crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, and part of the $12.000,00 needed to finance the film. Sam can’t throw this party alone – he needs a crowd to make it happen.

Matias Lovro is a journalist and documentary filmmaker from São Paulo, Brazil, where he produced and directed several pieces of non-fiction storytelling ( vimeo.com/69108605 ) including a 35-minute documentary about drinking and driving featured on national news. After working several years as a print reporter, he moved to LA to plunge into the creative process of filmmaking for good. His insta-short Us., co-directed as a tribute to the 2014 Academy Awards, screened on ABC’s Good Morning America.
