Probiotic Action Comments on U.S. Navy’s Research into Edible Probiotics

MIAMI - June 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Probiotic Action released a statement regarding the United States Navy’s newly announced research endeavor to develop an edible form of probiotics designed to prevent disease in a first of its kind funded research program.

The announcement was made via Health.mil, the Military Health System and Defense Health Agency’s official website. The research, being conducted by Rice University’s associate professor of bioengineering Jeff Tabor, is being funded by the Office of Naval Research. According to the article, Tabor “plans to program probiotics for highly reliable disease prevention in people with different genetic backgrounds, diets and so on. Tabor’s team aims to do this by creating a network of genetic circuits that can sense, compute and respond to disease in a highly reliable way.”

Probiotic Action spokesperson Fernando Perez believes that this is an important step towards probiotics being used as preventative care. He says, “This new research endeavor could drastically change the way that people view probiotics. Although probiotics have been recognized by many as a potentially positive cure and treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including using probiotics for acne treatment as we do, this could in effect legitimize probiotics in an overwhelmingly positive way.”

Perez continues, “We’ve long believed that using probiotics as a form of skin treatment is about restoring the natural balance of one’s healthy skin bacteria. Probiotics and acne or skin care is only the first step. We are very encouraged and interested in the new research. The fact that the U.S. Navy sees the potential value in probiotics is a vindication of sorts for what we’ve always believed to be true. “

Probiotic Action, a pioneer in alternative treatments for acne, follows all probiotic-associated products to collect information in order to help educate the public on the power of probiotics for skin care and overall health. For more information, please visit ProbioticAction.com.
