LIVE Competition:  June 30, 2014, 7-9pm |  Liberty Hall 2150 Main Street, Marstons Mills, MA.

Eligibility

This competition is open to solo vocalists only; no duets or group performances will be accepted.
Competition is open to residents of the Town of Barnstable (all seven villages).
Contestants must be at least 5 years of age and no older than 25 years old as of June 30, 2014.
Contestants must be amateurs (defined as someone who has earned no more than $5,000 as a performer in the 12 months.)
Finalists must be available for the live performance on June 30, 2014 from 7pm. to 9 pm.
Finalists must submit a signed liability and publicity release form.
Finalists 17 years and younger must submit a signed consent form from their parent or legal guardian.

Age Divisions (Ages as of June 30, 2014)

Divisions: Ages 5-9, 10-14, 15-19, and 20-25

Genre

This competition is open to the following musical genres as defined by The Recording Academy (Grammy Awards):  Country, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Folk, Musicals, Children’s, Urban Contemporary, Latin, World, Blues, and Reggae.

Online Auditions:  June 1 to June 18, 2014

All vocal performances must be no more than 4 minutes. Songs may be original or cover songs.
Post a video of your vocal performance to your own YouTube account.  YOU may perform a capella or with live or recorded background accompaniment. The accompaniment must have no vocals.
Each individual may submit only one audition video.
Tag your video as “Millbilly Idol” so we can find it!!!

Audition Process


Videos will be added to the 2014 Audition Playlist on the Marstons Mills Public Library YouTube Channel. (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC66dit8dbeWjTYrhTbdrAdg?...)
The Marstons Mills Public Library reserves the right to screen videos for appropriate content prior to posting.  Video auditions that include profanities will be automatically disqualified.
The judges’ decisions are final.
Audition judges will score each video based on the following criteria:

Voice: Pitch, Range, Phrasing, Timing, Control
Performance: Presence, Interpretation, Connection to Music, and Song Choice

Live Auditions: June 19, 2014 5:00-8:00pm-open only to family and friends

All vocal performances must be no more than 4 minutes. Songs may be original or cover songs.
All lyrics must be memorized.

3.     A sound system and microphone will be supplied.

Finalists & Live Performance-free and open to the public

Finalists will compete live on stage at Liberty Hall, 2150 Main Street on Monday, June 30, 2014 from   7-9pm.
Finalists will be contacted on Friday June 20, 2014 and given written instructions for the final competition.
Each finalist will have no more than four minutes for their performance including any spoken introduction by performer. Setup time will be limited to one additional minute.
All lyrics must be memorized.
For the final live competitions, finalists may: Perform a capella; Accompany themselves on their personal guitar or perform with recorded background accompaniment (The accompaniment must have no vocals)
Finalists agree to allow the use of their names, photos, and video recordings in connection with press releases, advertising, and other publicity related to Millbilly Idol or the Marstons Mills Public Library.
Finalists who do not show up to perform at their scheduled performance time will be disqualified.

Judging

There will be three live competition judges (music insiders who were not involved scoring the auditions) plus one alternate judge. If a judge is familiar with a contestant, the alternative judge’s scores will be used.
Finalists will be judged on: Voice (Pitch, Range, Phrasing, Timing, Control); Performance (Presence, Interpretation, Connection to Music, and Song Choice); and Overall Star Quality (Connection with Audience, Entertainment Value, and Musical Career Potential).
The judges’ decisions are final and scores will not be released to contestants or the public.
Audience votes will factor into the final scoring, so bring a cheering section.

Winners

The winner will receive a prize package including $50 cash.
The first runner-up will receive a cash prize of $25.
All federal, state, and local tax liabilities are the sole responsibility of the recipients.

Audience

Event is free and open to the public. We invite each audience member to bring one item for the Hyannis Food Bank.

Inclement Weather

Event is RAIN or SHINE.*

*
In case of severe weather and event cancellation, winners will be chosen based on audition videos. Judges will score videos based on the same criteria as a live performance. Audience scores will no longer be a factor.
