Just published is flutist Peter H. Bloom’s transcription of the first of three string quartets written by “the Spanish Mozart”, Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, in 1824 (Violin 1 transcribed for Flute).   Mr. Bloom describes this quartet as “a work of structural brilliance, rhetorical grace, and elegant intensity”.  Flutists and string players alike will be delighted with this new version of Arriaga’s Quartet in D-minor for Flute and Strings, available from NSM as a convenient PDF download.  http://www.noteworthysheetmusic.com/nsm/products-a-services/flute-wmixed-ensembles/154-arriaga-quartet-no1-flute-

The music available for flute, clarinet, and piano includes surprisingly few major works, so John W. Pratt’s superb new arrangement of the magnificent Mozart “Sinfonia Concertante”, K.364, for flute, clarinet, and piano will undoubtedly be enthusiastically received.  Mr. Pratt’s trio arrangement of the Sinfonia Concertante captures and presents in a new light many of the wonders of this great work, even the wonders of its sonorities.  http://www.noteworthysheetmusic.com/nsm/products-a-services/flute-wmixed-ensembles/153-mozart-sinfonia-concertante-flclpf

The two chamber music songs by Brahms, Zwei Gesänge for alto, viola, and piano, were composed specifically for his dear friends, the violinist/violist Joseph Joachim and the mezzo-soprano Amalie Schneeweiss, who were married in 1863.  The songs were written over 20 years apart, but Brahms published them together as Op.91 in 1884.  Clarinetists have long coveted these lovely viola parts, and various performances have provided clear evidence that a successful outcome can be achieved with the substitution of a clarinet for the viola in Op.91.  Noteworthy Sheet Music recently made publicly available a transcription of Brahms’ “Two Songs” for clarinet, created originally for a clarinetist friend by pianist John Pratt.

For alto flute, Noteworthy Sheet Music offers transcriptions of the four horn concertos written by Mozart for his good friend Joseph Leutgeb (1732-1811), the virtuoso horn player.  The Mozart horn concertos are delightful, joyous works that adapt surprisingly well to alto flute.  Transcriptions are available for the Concerto in D Major, K.412, Concerto in E-flat major, K.417, Concerto in Eb major, K.447 and Concerto in Eb major, K.495.
