TROUTVILLE, Va. - June 4, 2014 - PRLog -- An educator, nurse, author, keynote speaker and practitioner of integrative healthcare with a deep understanding of traditional healthcare and complementary medicine, she is co-author of the book Health: Mind Body Soul. Currently, she is founding director of Haelen Health, an integrative health collaborative that specializes in health education seminars, courses and offers holistic therapies to restore balance and promote wellness.

Barbara has always felt there is more to being human than maintaining parts of a machine and searched for ways to pull things together into a meaningful gestalt.  How do we connect from the basic to the divine - our bodies, our psyche, our homes, our gardens, our cities, our spirit? She has explored many paths; spiritual and alternative philosophies (e.g., Taoism, Reiki, Buddhism, Energy Healing) as well as materially based concepts (horticulture, architecture, art) and finally came to the conclusion that there was information overload on all things “healthy”.

It is not always easy to reconcile the practicalities of  corporate action ... or the daily grind ...or even the responsibilities of healthcare... with a compassionate mindfulness. It is painfully clear to her that we all live in many different worlds - too often to our detriment and with a media overload that overwhelms. Although over 39% of Americans use complementary therapies, how many actually understand them - or use them appropriately? This approach is not a “one-size fits all”. Today her focus is on helping individuals find their own path to wellness that incorporates  a balance of mind, body and spirit.
