By: Jin's Journey

NEW YORK - June 4, 2014 - PRLog -- Jin’s Journey, founded by Janelle “Chef Jin” Nicol Galvez, is pleased to announce the 2014 Brooklyn Chef Battle (#BKChefBattle) which is being presented in partnership with Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation (NEBHDCo), So Family and Thirty Mommy.  This community event is an “Iron Chef” style battle between three aspiring teams who will put their cooking chops to the tasting test on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 364 Vernon Avenue in Brooklyn from 12p to 5p.

“Our event partners and sponsors have been incredible with their enthusiastic support of education through cooking,” says Chef Jin.  “Sharing what I know of urban farming, cooking, and holistic health is how I like to help others create meals that are good for their well-being.  The Chef Battle will show parents, teens, young kids, grandparents – really everyone – how to eat better for living healthier lives.”

New Yorkers from all five boroughs are expected to cheer on the teams, which are being sponsored by East New York Farms, Oldways and Chaitty Coffee Shop.  Each chef team is made up of one adult and one youth who will have just 60 minutes to prepare a 3-course meal that dazzles.  Edna Nixon, 34, and Tianna Wallace, 14, of non-profit Tomorrow’s Leaders NYC, are being sponsored by Oldways and are ready to be proclaimed the winning team.  “We’re in it to win it!  Bring on the ingredients!!!” say Edna and Tianna.  Team ENYF chefs Kelvin McJunkin, 30, and Kimberly Ramdas, 17, are ready too, having already begun to think about dishes they might prepare, while shouting “Let the battle begin!”

The partners and sponsors of the 2014 Brooklyn Chef Battle are organizations and businesses committed to a healthy New York.  They are also committed to supporting small business owners such as Jin’s Journey who strive to educate New Yorkers on how to be smarter about what they eat and where they shop.  The list of partners and sponsors include NEBHDCo, So Family (Family Center sponsor), Thirty Mommy (Family Center sponsor), East New York Farms, Oldways, Chaitty Coffee Shop, Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union, Brooklyn Born Food Truck, Chelsea Green Publishing, and Popcorn Love.

“We’re excited to continue partnering with Chef Jin on programs that have a positive community impact,” says NEBHDCo’s Chief Operating Officer, Lisa Boyd.  “We’ve tasted Jin’s meals made with food from the shelves of our own Golden Harvest Client-Choice Food Pantry, and I cannot say enough about how great they taste.  It’s super cool how she works with what is in the neighborhood, at arm’s reach to Brooklynites.”
