Follow on Google News | Internationally Competitive Fencer Karolyn Szot Opens Silverlake FencingBy: C.E.B. Publicity Karolyn Szot fenced on Northwestern University’s varsity team and ranked #17 in her last North American Cup. As an athlete and as an acclaimed TV director, Szot credits fencing for “empowering me at an early age to be determined, driven, and focused on my goals.” Fencing is a great sport for all ages, teaching participants how to focus and think on their feet, all while having fun and getting physical exercise. Szot trained under Olympian Marcos Lucchetti (Lucchetti Fencing USA) and traveled with him to Italy to train with their Junior World Cup team. Szot looks forward to bringing the skills and techniques that she learned in Italy to her students of all levels in Los Angeles. Most of all, she says, “I love fencing and want to be able to pay-it-forward and encourage all my students (youth and adults) to become great fencers and confident in whatever they pursue!” Szot hopes that her club will help build the fencing community in Los Angeles, especially for younger fencers and for those on the Eastside. “I hope to expand the fencing community and possibly help schools develop fencing teams and clubs throughout the Los Angeles area.” Silverlake Fencing is excited to have a home at The Sweat Spot.
