MALIBU, Calif. - May 27, 2014 - PRLog -- The news came yesterday, but it was 13 years in the making. Steve S. Ryan, PhD, learned his non-profit patient education website, Atrial Fibrillation: Resources for Patients, A-Fib.com, joins a select few on Healthline's list of the Best Atrial Fibrillation Blogs of 2014. Dr. Ryan started A-Fib.com in 2002 to spare others the frustration, depression and anxiety he went through before finding his A-Fib cure in 1998.

Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm) seen by physicians. (An A-Fib Fact sheet is available at BeatYour A-Fib.com/A-Fib_Fact_Sheet.html.)

Dr. Ryan was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation in 1997, with symptoms forcing him to take disability leave from his job at NBC-TV in Burbank. After numerous ineffective drug therapies, two unsuccessful right atrium ablations, a failed left atrium ablation and much frustration, he locked himself in a medical school library for 6 months. He educated himself about Atrial Fibrillation through an exhaustive search of the medical literature and through interviews with leading cardiologists and medical experts.

In 1998, that medical research led him to Bordeaux, France, to find the world's leader in Atrial Fibrillation research, Michel Haïssaguerre, MD, of the Hôpital Cardiologique du Haut-Lévêque. Dr. Ryan was their first U.S. patient. His A-Fib was cured through a relatively new procedure at the time called Focal Point Catheter Ablation (now called “pulmonary vein Isolation”). He has been A-Fib-free ever since.

Dr. Ryan quote, "We hope that recognition of A-Fib.com helps spread our message that 'A-Fib can be Cured!' That patients don't have to live a life on meds."

Dr. Ryan is also the author of the book, Beat Your A-Fib: The Essential Guide to Finding Your Cure, an Amazon.com Top 100 Best Seller since its debut in 2012 in two categories Disorders & Diseases Reference, and Heart Disease. Beat Your A-Fib educates and empowers patients to develop a plan for finding their A-Fib cure or best outcome.

Other Awards and Recognition: As a debut author, Steve S. Ryan received the 2014 New Horizon Award for his book, Beat Your A-Fib: The Essential Guide to Finding Your Cure. Other awards include a Gold 2014 eLit Book Award in Health/Medicine/Nutrition, the 2014 International Book Award in Health: Aging/50+, the 2014 Eric Hoffer Book Award for E-Book-Nonfiction and a 2013 Irwin Award from the Book Publicists of Southern California.
