UConn and Rutgers Students “Grip It and Rip It” in Coed Arm Wrestling Championship Finals
Tune in to ESPNU 7 p.m. ET Tuesday, May 27 for Championship Finals
Both teams scored impressive victories in their semifinal matches with students from Rutgers defeating students from rival Penn State 80 to 30 while students from UConn scored an impressive 95 to 15 victory over students from long time rival Syracuse University.
In 2014, UConn won national championships in both Men’s and Women’s Basketball and in Women’s Field Hockey. Will UConn students, led by undefeated captain Will Dean of Garrison, New York and undefeated Jaclyn Paride of Stonington, Connecticut take home another national championship?
Every match is important and grueling. Each team has two male and two female competitors as well as one each male and female alternate. Will alternates be needed to secure the victory? UConn students list all six members on their roster, as does Rutgers. Each team is prepared to accommodate potential injury during the championship finals. Will it come down to which team has the deepest bench?
Each match is worth 5 points with two female students facing off against their rivals and two male students facing off against their opponents. Each competitor must arm wrestle with both right and left arms. In the triple bonus point round a flip of a coin determines which arm the students will use. Will the flip of a coin determine the victor?
Calling the action for the College Arm Wrestling League Championship are veteran ESPN announcers, Noah Coslov and Tara Petrolino who are joined by co-host “IMPACT WRESTLING” superstar and five-time CBS “Big Brother” star, Jessie Godderz, known to his fans as Mr. PEC-Tacular, interviewing student arm wrestlers on the sidelines following matches. Four-time World Arm Wrestling Champion for Team U.S.A. and well-respected Arm Wrestling Referee, Jim Bryan controls the action at the arm wrestling table for the College Arm Wrestling Championship with his signature “grip it and rip it” signaling the start of each match.
