PS Racing’s Formula Renault pilot Pete Olson has a lot of catching up to do.

After skipping the May 9-11 Sepang International F1 Circuit Rounds 3,4,5 due to financial constraints, because of the accumulation of points the championship hopeful has dropped from 3rd to 7th in the 2014 AFR Series standings, as he didn’t have a chance to fight for his honor in last month’s races.

However, Olson says himself that “Sepang was one of the best things that could have happened to me as it was the first time I’ve sat on the sidelines in two years, watching my own teammates race and knowing that I should have been on the podium with them. It gave me something that money can’t buy, and that is a hunger that you can’t put into words, a very serious renewed determination.”

“This Championship means everything to me, and I don’t care what it takes or how long it takes, I will win it” says Olson.

“I went into motorsport full-time years ago and realized very quickly that it takes a certain hunger, a certain level of commitment, like 2007 Canada when I was up at dawn training in the gym every day while the rest of the guys were sleeping. The issue is that I think along the way you get used to this competition lifestyle, and you forget some of that hunger, you get complacent. But I’ve definitely found it again. I am so hungry that it hurts.”

Olson trains three times a day, early morning with the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School pull-up program, then at lunch with its Run Time Improvement Program, and in the evening with weight training in the gym. “The best part of fitness is the focus” said Olson. “It gives you a focus not just on the body but in the mind, and breaking through the physical barriers each day gives you an edge to break through mental barriers, to know that you can do anything you put your mind to, with proper determination.”

Thanks to the support of Nick Swanson and Sideways Driving Club in Hong Kong [http://www.Sideways-Driving-Club.com] as well as Olson’s continued promotion of Racing for Children, which has reached over 35 million people [http://www.peteolson.com/RacingforChildren.html] thanks to PS Racing and its owner triple Formula Renault Champion Pekka Saarinen, Olson will have a chance to prove his worth in the June 14-15 Asia Formula Renault races.

The races will feature live television broadcasts to millions of viewers in China as well as an average fan attendance at the ZIC of over 30,000 persons for the weekend.

Olson has his work cut out for him. Quoting the famous Formula One [F1] driver Ayrton Senna, he said “2nd is the first of the ones to lose.”

We wish the determined race driver the best of luck on June 14th.
