Anyways, this Spanish white marries up a fruit salad of varieties in a quest for crisp flavours and texture, with the very Spanish grapes Macabeo, Verdejo and Viura coupled with the very un-Spanish Sauvignon Blanc. The net result has character, texture and flavour all in a simple, yet interesting style. Winemaker's Note Pale and fresh with a delicate green tint. The aromas are restrained but enticing with subtle stone fruit and citrus. The palate follows the theme with originally delicate mineral and stone flavours building to a textural mid palate that is mouth coating and persistent. In the mountainous area of the Upper Penedès the more delicate and aromatic white grape varieties are grown. Moscatel and Gewürtztraminer form the basis for Viña Esmeralda, an exceptionally delicate and strikingly fragrant wine. This wine takes its name from the emerald colour of the Mediterranean and is made from the varieties Mosacatel de Alejandría (85%) y Gewürztraminer (15%). Excellent with shellfish (a sublime match for an avocado and shellfish salad, for instance), as well as with fish, fresh melon with cured Spanish ham, pâtés, poultry or pork in a sweet and sour sauce. Serve at 11ºC.
