LITCHFIELD, Conn. - May 21, 2014 - PRLog -- In this lecture, co-sponsored with the Yale Club of NWCT, Molleen Theodore will trace a history of modern art by examining collections and exhibitions from the late nineteenth century through to the 1970’s.  She will look at both the rules governing art and at the ways in which artists have broken rules, innovating in their representation of space, subject, and tradition.  At the same time, she will discuss the collectors, gallerists, and institutions that have supported avant-garde artists and will introduce ways in which to frame a discussion of works of art.

Molleen Theodore received her Ph.D. from CUNY Graduate Center in 2010 with a specialization in twentieth-century art, photography, and film studies.  She is the Assistant Curator of Programs at the Yale University Art Gallery and a lecturer in the Education Department at the Museum of Modern Art.  She has served as the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Senior Fellow in the Education Department at the Yale Art Gallery, a critic at the Yale School of Art, and a lecturer in the Yale History of Art Department.

All Oliver Wolcott Library events are free and open to the public.  Space is limited.  Registration is required and can be done by calling 860-567-8030 or logging onto www.owlibrary.org and clicking on Programs/Adult Programs.
