Cozumel - Quintana Roo - Mexico

COZUMEL, Mexico - May 20, 2014 - PRLog -- El Cid Timeshare knows that travelers from around the world vacation in Cozumel to enjoy the sun, water and tropical environment of this luxurious location in Mexico. Between enjoying the pool, restaurants and other amenities on site at El Cid Timeshare, many vacations to Cozumel enjoy visiting the Mayan ruins that Mexico is so famous for. El Cid Timeshare is showcasing the locations of three prime destinations for visitors to enjoy when exploring for ancient Mayan ruin sites while in Cozumel.

1. Sian Ka’an

The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a unique and pristine ecological area that was protected by presidential decree in 1986. The area includes the unique feature of wetlands, which are a nesting ground for the many species of wading birds that call the area their home. In fact, there are 336 known bird species and 103 known mammal species that call Sian Ka’an their home. Throughout the 1.3 million acres of the preserve, there are 23 known archeological sites where artifacts have been dated up to 2,300 years ago.

2. Coba

Coba is an incredible archeological find nestled deep in the tropical jungle and located between two lagoons. The site’s name translates to “waters stirred by the wind,” stemming from the two large lagoons that the city is surrounded by. Due to the fact that the location is so deep in the forest, much of the site is still unexplored. El Cid Timeshare reveals that Coba is not just one site – it is comprised of a group of sites that are connected together by a central pyramid.

3. Tulum

El Cid Timeshare shares that Tulum is a truly unique and incredible archaeological site. Unlike other Mayan Ruins that are mostly hidden away deep in the jungle, Tulum is located right on the beach, on a cliff that overlooks the ocean. The name Tulum translates to “wall,” which refers to the large wall that surrounds the city. Extremely important to the Mayan’s extensive trade network, goods from other Mayan civilizations across Mexico have been found here.

El Cid Timeshare knows that history buffs and those who enjoy visiting sites of historical and cultural significance will enjoy a trip to any one of these archaeological sites.
