MANAGUA, Nicaragua - May 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Nicaragua will participate in the 2014 Latin America Down Under conference to be held on May 28-29 in Sydney, Australia. This event was launched in 2012 to support the new momentum in Australia-Latin American relations and the rapid growth of engagement in the mining sector.

Following the format of the highly successful African counterpart, Latin America Down Under provides a rare opportunity for governments, companies, suppliers, media and investors to network and share their stories and experiences of doing business in the region. Among expected attendees of the 8-session-conference are mining executives, financiers, government officials and representatives, investors, international and local media, mining service industry, suppliers and mining consultants.

The 2013 Latin America Down Under attracted more than 350 delegates from business, government, academia and media. This turnout is proof of the current strength of the relationship and the latent opportunities still on offer.

The mining sector has become one of the Nicaragua’s most important exporters throughout the years. According to the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN, for its acronym in Spanish), gold represented the country’s main export product reaching US$435.9 million in 2013, a 3 percent increase in comparison to 2012, despite decreasing international prices. Furthermore, in 2013 the country’s gold production increased by 38 percent, reaching 309,960 troy ounces.

International companies such as B2Gold Corp., CANCHINIC S.A., Condor Gold, Hemco, and Golden Reign Resources Ltd. are currently developing successful projects in Nicaragua. All companies comply with national legislation and implement social responsibility practices with their employees, the communities where they are established and the environment.
