May 19, 2014 - PRLog -- Four state officials who have worked to protect and promote Michigan’s small businesses will be recognized on Tuesday, May 20 as the Michigan Business and Professional Association (http://www.michbusiness.org/) (MBPA) and its sister association, the Michigan Food and Beverage Association (http://michfood.org/) (MFBA) hosts its legislative reception in Lansing.

This year, the associations will honor two elected officials, one state department director, and one state staff member for their dedication in tackling issues that affect Michigan’s small businesses. Honorees include:

·         State Representative Eileen Kowall (R. 44th District) of Oakland County

·         State Senator Mike Green (R. 31st District) from the Thumb Region

·         Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Director Dan Wyant

·         Chris Priest, senior strategy advisor - Office of Governor Rick Snyder

Bonnie Bochniak, vice president of government relations for MBPA and MFBA, said the four state leaders are being recognized for their work in supporting a wide range of initiatives, including two recently-enacted pieces of legislation; Medicaid expansion, known as “Healthy Michigan” under the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA), and planned statewide expansion of materials recycling.

The legislative reception provides MBPA and MFBA members an informal opportunity to become better acquainted with state lawmakers and to publically recognize individual officials for championing issues important to the small business community.

The Michigan Business and Professional Association boasts a statewide sphere of influence that no other organization of its kind can claim, leveraging a depth of programs and community initiatives that positively impact more than 150,000 businesses. Learn more at www.michbusiness.org.
