May 19, 2014 - PRLog -- What: Speaker session on the inadequate security afforded to Big Data assets at the Big Data World Congress (http://bigdatacongress.com) event due to held at Olympia from 17-18 June 2014

Who:Nigel Wilkinson (http://bigdatacongress.com/speaker/nigel-wilkinso/), Lead Security Practitioner at Auriga. Nigel has over 15 years experience developing and implementing best practice information assurance and security policy and controls. With specialist expertise in governance, accreditation, threat assessment and the management of complex risk portfolios, Nigel has delivered CLAS security and information assurance support to the MoD, NPIA, IPSA and the MoJ.

Louise T. Dunne (http://bigdatacongress.com/speaker/louise-t-dunne/) is Managing Director of Auriga and will participate in the Firestarter Panel debate. Louise oversees the strategic development of Auriga as well as delivering on CLAS Consultancy projects and has previously undertaken a number of high-profile public sector projects, successfully seeing the UK’s largest organisation through Stage 1 ISO 270001 before going on to conduct information assurance and compliance projects for the Home Office and the RPA.

Why:We often come across clients who describe their data set as ‘anonymised’ when in fact the data is very easy to reverse engineer and extract personal details. However, good, holistic planning will eliminate the surprise element and allow organisations to classify data in a more intelligent and business-led fashion. Big Data is seeing valuable data identified, analysed and stored on an unprecedented scale yet few big data engines have the skill to protect that data. The techniques and mechanisms used to classify and secure big data assets must be considered against the desired results, legal and regulatory requirements as well as the organisation’s capability to handle the data before and after it has been processed.
