Satanist Inmate Suing County Jail to Defend Religious Freedoms

Satanic church member feels his constitutional right to eat according to his faith's strict diet is being violated.
LAS VEGAS - May 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Alex C. Snelson, a 33 year old, self identified, practicing Satanist is suing the Washoe County Jail for not allowing him to abide by his religion's strict dietary guidelines.

He had been in the county jail for a case related to possessing meth (maybe okay for Satanic cultists or maybe not) and having brass knuckles (those are still cool?).  He is now in State Prison serving 2-6 yeas for possession of a stolen vehicle.

It was during his stay at the Washoe County facility where he stated that not only was he unable to eat "whole foods" as dictated by his religion, but also he was maliciously denied ice cream by the guards--which he maintains, as representing himself as legal counsel, is actually a "whole food."  Interestingly, Anton Szandor LaVey says there are no such restrictions inherent in the religion he founded--The Church of Satan.  Snelson maintains he's a member of the Church of Light which we can find no citation of or verify its existence.

Snelson is seeking compensatory as well as punitive damages in his lawsuit.  No word yet on the amount sought after.
