Nominees for the prestigious award have their names submitted to the Chamber with a description of why the business should be considered.

Initial evaluations are made to confirm the eligibility of the nminated business into one of the possible award classes. These include Emerging Small Business, Sustaining Small Business and Lifetime Acheivement Awards.

Once the initial screening is completed the business must complete a detailled questionaire covering the background and general facts about the business, financial information, diversity and commmunuty involvement.

All of the data gathered is then sent to an independant Chamber of Commerce for evaluation, scoring and detemination of the winning business.

The Small Business Awards Gala will be held Thursday, May 29, 5:30 P.M. at the Buckner Event Plaza, 388 Buckner Drive, Anniston. The plaza is part of the former Fort McClellan property and has been renovated back to it's original glory.

"The Awards are a time for us to recognize and applaud area small businesses and their accomplishments. Our Small Business Gala recognizes, each year, a Lifetime Achievement Small Business, an Emerging Small Business of the Year, a Sustaining Small Business of the Year, and a Small Business Advocate of the Year."

"The Chamber created the Small Business Excellence Awards to showcase the achievement and impact of “small businesses” in our region. Each year, businesses with fewer than 75 employees are recognized for their creativity, vitality, stability and relevance. Equally important in selecting winners are civic involvement and responsiveness, mentoring, corporate responsibility, employee recognition and concerns regarding service issues."
