-- Following this week’s British Pig and Poultry Fair, BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today ran a feature on the innovative BPEX Practical Pig app. Presenter Anna Hill was on farm with pig producer Tony Bayles and his apprentice stockman using the app in a production environment.
Practical Pig promotes best practice pig production; using informative videos and literature which can be referred to in locations without an Internet connection. It was developed for BPEX by RadeDigital, a Suffolk web agency who are award winners for their imaginative use of information technology. Film production was by Graham White of Insight Communications.
In the demonstration, Anna learns the correct technique for picking up and checking a piglet. As a tool to help train his team, Tony Bayles commented “…the app gives you confidence, it’s one to one and they are not intimidated and they can learn at their own speed.”
The app works on smartphone and tablet and is available free from the Apple Store and Google Play.
