The 2014 Special Olympics USA Games, which will be held June 14-21, is the largest, most innovative and inspirational national event to be held in the history of Special Olympics in the United States. From 16 different sports competitions in some of the top sports venues in the state including Princeton University to the creation of a Jersey Shore-themed Special Olympics Town complete with boardwalk, the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games will showcase the achievements and determination of nearly 3,500 Special Olympics athletes from throughout the United States who will travel to New Jersey to compete with the support of 1,000 coaches, 10,000 volunteers and an anticipated 70,000 spectators.
“Having spent many summers down the shore as a child and now bringing my own family there, this is an incredible honor to be recognized by the Jersey Shore Convention & Visitors Bureau. While planning the 2014 USA Games, it was our goal to bring a little bit of the Jersey Shore up the parkway, especially in our themed Special Olympics Town, so that our spectators could experience the best that our state has to offer,” said TJ Nelligan, Chairman & CEO of the 2014 USA Games. “The 2014 USA Games is another event that will showcase our state and its residents in the best possible way as we anticipate more than 70,000 spectators cheering on the remarkable athletes competing and changing the overall perception of individuals with intellectual disabilities. We invite you to join the celebration.”
The Summer Kick-Off press conference and Legislative Reception are joint efforts of the JSCVB, the Monmouth-Ocean County Development Council, and the Monmouth County Office of Tourism, the Ocean County Office of Tourism, the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce, and Monmouth Arts.
