BOZEMAN, Mont. - May 14, 2014 - PRLog -- Montana State University’s online graduate courses for science teachers are now open for summer registration. The courses are all part of MSU Extended University’s National Teachers Enhancement Network (NTEN). Most courses start in early to mid-June.

Summer 2014 courses include offerings in biology; physics; earth science; land resources and environmental science (LRES); microbiology; math; nutrition; and education, curriculum and instruction (EDCI).

One popular summer offering includes the return of "History of Spaceflight and Space Technology," (EDCI 591) taught by science journalist Andrew Chaikin, author of "Voices from the Moon" and "A Man on the Moon," which inspired Tom Hanks' Emmy-winning HBO miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon."

Physics courses include: Conceptual Physics; Astronomy for Teachers; Physics of Renewable Energy for Teachers; Electric Circuits & Magnetism; and The World of Motion.

Other classes include: Fundamentals of Oceanography (ERTH 591); Streamside Science: Hands-On Approaches to Water Quality Education (Land Resources and Environmental Science 591); Environmental-Applied Microbiology (Microbiology 540); Statistics for Teachers (Math 518); Teaching Adolescent Nutrition (NUTR 524); and Plant Science: It Grows on You (BIOL 491).

Teachers do not have to enroll in an MSU degree program in order to take the courses. Teachers who go on to pursue MSU's 12-credit online graduate certificates in science teaching or the university's Master's of Science in Science Education degree may be able to transfer in some course credits after being accepted.

Many of the courses offer a 10% discount to members of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
