FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - May 10, 2014 - PRLog -- "Rosie the Riveter" Girl Scouts from Senior Troop 3844 (Deer Park, NY) visited the American Airpower Museum along with several members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Volunteer George Lutz took the visitors on a "journey" to enjoy World War II history and the Long Islanders who proudly served our great country.  The scouts learned about the history of the planes on display at the American Airpower Museum, including their origins at Republic Airport.  They also listened to stories shared by veteran volunteers at the museum.

The scouts visited the museum in coordination with the support of Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive's (www.Spiritof45.org) efforts to support Military Museums throughout the country.  Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive is collaborating with many other national and local organizations to plan celebrations commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II (in 2015).

The "Rosie's" of Girl Scout Senior Troop 3844 have coordinated scout marchers in the New York City Veterans Day Parade for Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive for several years.  They will also be participating in the National Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C. on May 26th.

The American Airpower Museum is a wonderful, local museum… please support all of our local museums!
