Follow on Google News | EU to Extend Transition Period for Sunglasses Standard EN ISO 12312-1In November 2013, SGS informed you of the new sunglasses standard EN ISO 12312-1 (1) that would replace the existing EN 1836 standard.
On 13 December 2013, the transition date for the cessation of EN 1836 to show a presumption of conformity to the Personal Protective Equipment Directive (89/686/EEC) Personal Protective Equipment Directive The European Commission has announced an extension to the transitional periods, Official journal of EU. EN 1836 can still be used to show conformity to the PPE Directive up until 28 February 2015. EN ISO 12312-1 can also be used to show a presumption of conformity to the PPE Directive. After the 28 February 2015, the only standard that will show a presumption of conformity for sunglasses to the PPE Directive will be EN ISO 12312-1.
