Baltazar understands life isn’t always fair, but that doesn’t stop her from doing the right thing when she can.  An activist at heart, Baltazar saw an injustice and knew she had to do something about it.

Preferring to work behind the scenes in of support others, one particular court case made the local news, captivated Baltazar, and wouldn’t let her go. The case was about Koua Fong Lee, a husband and father wrongly imprisoned due to a malfunction of his car which caused sudden acceleration and loss of brakes in his Toyota, leaving three people dead.  While Baltazar didn't know the man or the victims, she felt compelled to act when the county attorney opposed a new trial despite insurmountable new evidence and forty-four new witnesses stating the exact thing happened in their same year Toyota.  In her quest for justice, Baltazar learned how standing up for others can help break down barriers that keep humanity from becoming all it can be.
