CHEYENNE, Wyo. - May 1, 2014 - PRLog -- OutdoorGearLab, a popular website known for producing detailed comparison reviews of outdoor equipment and apparel, has published the results of their women's ski glove review. Five top-selling models were selected from a broad field and rigorously tested on spring ski tours in the wet climate of the North Cascades in Washington, on sub-zero ski days riding lifts at Bridger Bowl in Montana, and on snowmobile assisted days in the backcountry. Each pair was evaluated on the metrics of warmth, water resistance, dexterity, durability, and features. The lead tester, Stephanie Bennett, states that women who have notoriously cold hands tend to switch back-and-forth between mittens and gloves in search of the warmest method. Through her tests she found that having a waterproof glove that keeps your hands warm and dry is the most important feature, followed closely by a glove that allows for heat regulation during high exertion activities such as hiking or skinning. Bennett notes that her favorites were ones with removable liners that provide more comfortable temperature regulation across a wider range of conditions. After over thirty hours in each pair, she chose winners in the categories of Editors' Choice, Top Pick for extra warmth, and Best Buy selections.

Editors' Choice Winner: Arc'teryx Women's Beta AR

http://www.outdoorgearlab.com/Ski-Gloves-Womens-Reviews/Arcteryx-Beta-AR-Glove-Womens

Constructed with a fully waterproof/breathable Gore-Tex shell and a fuzzy removable liner, the Beta AR gloves excel at water resistance, dexterity, and versatility. The liners can be worn independently and so can the shells, or both pieces can be worn together for full weather resistance. Full leather palms make these gloves durable and grippy. According to lead tester Stephanie Bennett, these gloves are excellent enough to make her switch over from being a dedicated mitten wearer. The only feature this glove was found to lack was a soft fabric patch for a nose wipe.

Best Buy Winner: Outdoor Research Women's Arete

The OR Arete glove proved itself as a high performance glove in Bennett's tests, earning the second highest score overall. For a price of $89, which is less than half the price of the Arc'teryx Beta AR gloves, this is an excellent deal, which is why the Arete wins the Best Buy award. The removable liners in this pair have silicone on the palm and fingers to add extra grip when the liners are worn on their own. When both layers are worn together, these nylon-palmed gloves were found to be very dexterous but not quite as warm as some of the other test models. This pair comes packed with the main comfort features desired in a good ski glove, such as a nose wipe, cuff cinches, and even a loop for clipping the fingers of the glove to a harness so that they don't fill with ice and snow.

Top Pick Winner for Extreme Warmth: Black Diamond Women's Guide

This glove is rated to protect in temperatures down to -20 degrees Fahrenheit. To accomplish this, this glove has a very thick and durable boiled wool liner. Uniquely, the Gore-Tex insert is built into the liner instead of the shell of the glove, so when worn separately the liner will remain waterproof. This is unlike any other glove tested. However, this liner is difficult to put in and take out of the shell and is not conducive to removing frequently. Once it is inside the shell, the liner is so thick that dexterity is found to be lacking, making precise movements challenging. However, this glove is much warmer than all the other models tested, and it is incredibly durable. With EVA foam incorporated into the exterior and a full leather palm, this pair is made to last. Bennett predicts that the BD Guide will last for several seasons. This burly pair does require a bit of a break-in period, but will reward cold-handed women with warm fingers once they have worn it in a bit.
