NORWELL, Mass. - May 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Norwell VNA (NVNA) and Hospice is proud to celebrate National VNA Week.  As the only independent, non-profit VNA serving the South Shore, and one of the oldest in the area – having been founded in 1920, Norwell VNA and Hospice has expanded their community outreach to also include multiple support groups, educational programs, and community health resources throughout the South Shore. NVNA and Hospice employs over 200 clinicians, professionals and para-professionals, and administrative support staff.

This is the eleventh year that Congress has recognized the second week in May as National Visiting Nurse Association Week. Why the recognition? Visiting Nurse Agencies and Associations (VNAs) provide cost-effective and compassionate home healthcare and hospice services to some of the nation’s most vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly and individuals with disabilities.  In addition, most VNAs offer wellness clinics and immunization outreach in the community, usually free of charge.

“In this climate of constant healthcare change, it is important to remember and honor our roots as a Visiting Nurse Association,” says Meg Doherty, CEO of Norwell VNA and Hospice. “The visiting nurses are the foot soldiers of the healthcare industry, providing care to patients in their homes. Our staff is very committed to the communities we serve, from Quincy to Plymouth. I’m most proud of our wonderful clinicians who provide excellent care every day and to our education and community health staff who offer responsive and necessary community outreach.”
