Hershey Entertainment & Resorts named Central Penn College’s 2014 Business Partner of the Year
Central Penn’s 10th annual event explores generational diversity in the workplace
“We are delighted to honor Hershey Entertainment & Resorts because they have assisted our alumni and students in their career development in many different ways,” says Steve Hassinger, career services director at Central Penn College. “Opportunities for paid internships, part-time jobs, and full-time careers across a variety of majors abound with this company. Hershey Entertainment & Resorts has hired many Central Penn graduates over the years for full-time, career opportunities. Many Central Penn students have worked part time with the company during their college years, gaining valuable experience and helping to pay for their education. Hershey Entertainment & Resorts has also offered valuable, paid internship experiences to students from a variety of majors. Representatives of the company have attended recruiting functions at Central Penn to educate alumni and students about career opportunities with Hershey Entertainment & Resorts and have conducted mock employment interviews of students to help them hone their interviewing skills.

The Business Partner of the Year event is a forum for Central Penn to thank the many employers and community members who have established a working relationship with the college and its alumni and students. This year’s breakfast revolved around a generational diversity theme. Many workplaces are concerned about the behaviors and attitudes of new employees and younger employees.
Employees of diverse ages tend to act differently in the work environment, and tensions often form between them. Discussion included effective ways to communicate differences and ways to adapt to generational changes. Employers also shared the challenges they face when hiring the younger generation, and provided advice to traditional-
Some other discussion pieces included: how to communicate differences without changing the workplace environment from its original form; how to stay away from generalizations about certain age groups; and how to educate one on the differences in the generational gaps. The event helped students and employers understand and explore expectations in the workforce.
