FL Department of Economic Opportunity Features Bonita Springs Permitting Process as Best Practic

(April 30, 2014) – The Bonita Springs Estero Economic Development Council (BSEEDC) is touting news that The City of Bonita Springs permitting process was featured as a best practice in The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s (DEO) April- June 2014 newsletter, in the Policy Spotlight section.

Promoting economic opportunities for all Floridians through successful workforce, community, and economic development strategies, the Florida DEO highlights local governments that understand how policy affects the economy and have taken positive action in recent years.

The Florida DEO wrote, “The City of Bonita Springs has worked diligently with municipal departments to develop a comprehensive and coordinated permit and plans review process to facilitate the timely issuance of building permits, development orders, and other land use permits. The one-stop-shop permitting office is where applicants can submit building permits and land use applications to initiate the review process, ask questions, and gain the necessary information to successfully complete the application process in a timely and efficient manner.”

Upon reviewing its permitting process in 2012, The City of Bonita Springs realized that applicants had to coordinate with three different entities at different locations to receive services for their single business or residence. A task force was initiated by City staff and BSEEDC to examine how the three separate entities could work together to combine services into one location, creating a one-stop-shop.
