Jazz to Gospel Concert Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 98 Bottles San Diego, CA
Come hear songs of hope rooted in gospel paired with the musical side of jazz that is engaging and improvisational in its message. An evening of passionate live music from two emerging artists Songstress Daneen Wilburn and Saxophonist Brandon Primus.
Wilburn has been compared to the great Ella Fitzgerald, her voice instantly recognizable that is pure sound and positive energy. Then like the great gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson Wilburn's voice entraps you with her unforgettable, passionate and spirit filled sultry soul toned voice. Throw in her jazz influence and you have musical bliss.
They say there are many saxophonists in this world but we invite you to spend an evening with the incredible Brandon Primus. His soulful strut on stage and his engaging chords are musically orchestrated, memorable, and truly improvisational with the spirit of jazz. You will experience an unbelievable hybrid of Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, and R&B. Basically a historical culmination of styles that black musicians have pioneered.
Jazz to Gospel is a music lover’s event. A mix of vocals and instruments that will have you on your feet. Take time for a little funk for your toe tapping urges and some hand clapping for the raising of your hands high in praise. Now that is a good time. From yesteryear to today's contemporary jazz and gospel, this concert delivers.
Enjoy an evening where two genres of music that are expressions of style, moods, struggles, and spirit together send an interrelated message that is improvisational in its elements.
