ELK GROVE, Calif. - April 30, 2014 - PRLog -- It seems today that you can't go anywhere without hearing people swearing. And the really interesting thing is that Christians can sometimes be the worst. Our society has made swearing so common that it has affected us as Christians.

Bad language has become so popular we have to be careful where we step because the streets are filled with broken words. But God has a higher standard and explains why our language should be different.

When we swear we are not losing our temper, it's not because of our family, or lack of sleep or anything else.

The Bible says it's not the culture it's our heart, language is the audible explanation of what's going on in our heart.

Matthew 15:18 “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart,”

The Bible also says God expects our language to heal, encourage, and spread His message of salvation. We can't do that if we're swearing, negative, and hurtful.

Proverbs 18:20-21  “From the fruit of his mouth a man’s stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

We have to be careful where we step because swearing is like trash on the sidewalk, it's everywhere. Have you ever been somewhere and someone drops a cuss word in front of a child and everyone yells at that person? It's because they realize the child is innocent and shouldn't be exposed to that kind of language.

There is no one more innocent or pure that Jesus and every time we swear He hears it and hits Him just as hard as a little kid hearing their first cuss word.

So what can we do?

Realize the affect our language has on Jesus Himself, understand God created language for love, encouragement, and spreading the gospel, and change what we're exposed to. We all know the old saying, "Garbage in, Garbage out."

Romans 12:2 “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
