Shelbyville Municipal Airport is Looking to the Future with Help from Aviation Marketing Consulting

An initial on-site assessment was conducted in January and an initial report was presented in March which included both qualitative and quantitative research.

Aviation Marketing Consulting’s assessment provided for two possible directions for the future of the Shelbyville airport. “Shelbyville is at a crossroads. [It can] either remain as it is currently; a recreationally focused general aviation airport, or to pivot towards business aviation and to position it as the gateway and keystone for future economic development for the City of Shelbyville.” said Rocco Cipriano, President of AMC. The report expanded on the two distinct and separate directions, listing strengths and weaknesses for both. “Each vision has its benefits and drawbacks, and each direction is not fully compatible with the other.” Mr. Cipriano added.

Research for the report brought to light an interesting fact: Shelbyville Airport has some of the lowest fuel costs, not only in the state of Tennessee, but in the entire Southeast, US, which prompted Jay Johnson, Shelbyville’s City Manager to question how much money were they leaving on the table and if fuel prices were increased, how would it impact traffic to the airport? This data, along with other analysis in the assessment will be deliberated on in the City Council session, where it is hoped that a consensus for future direction of the airport will be decided. No matter which vision is selected, Aviation Marketing Consulting will continue to partner with the City of Shelbyville to develop an in-depth strategic marketing plan to promote the airport.
