-- Wright Communications Worldwide Inc.supports the action taken by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to ban Clipper owner Donald Sterling for life. The recent statements by Mr. Sterling were ignorant and hurtful. Under the lifetime ban, Sterling is prohibited from attending games or practices, stepping foot inside any Clippers facility, taking part in business or personnel decisions, or having a role in league activities such as attending NBA Board of Governors meetings.Silver insisted he would do "everything in my power" to compel the NBA Board of Governors to "force a sale" of the Clippers.
Sterling's comments were made public three days ago by the Media outlet TMZ. In the recording, the man assumed to be Sterling seems mad about a photo the woman posted to Instagram with NBA hall of fame player Magic Johnson. According to the recording released by TMZ it goes on to say, "In your lousy f**ing Instagrams, you don't have to have yourself with -- walking with black people," the man says."If it's white people, it's OK?" she responds. "If it was Larry Bird, would it make a difference?
Wright Communications Worldwide Inc. is a company that stands for diversity. Which makes the recent comments by Sterling extremely disturbing. We also stand with The National Urban League, the National Action Network, the NAACP and the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation which all agree with Silver's announcement that Sterling is banned for life and that the league would attempt to force him to sell the Clippers.
Additional recommendations include future meetings with NBA commissioner Adam Silver to discuss diversity in the executive ranks of the professional basketball league and to figure out ways to ensure such situations don't happen again.
