PeopleForBikes and World Bicycle Relief are “United For Bikes”

BOULDER, Colo. - April 29, 2014 - PRLog -- PeopleForBikes (http://www.peopleforbikes.org) and World Bicycle Relief (https://www.worldbicyclerelief.org/) are teaming on a month-long awareness and fundraising campaign this May. The campaign—called United For Bikes— will celebrate the power of bicycles to change lives, both locally and globally.

The inspiration behind United For Bikes comes from the many benefits that bicycling brings to people all around the world. Whether someone is bicycling to avoid urban gridlock in the U.S. or trying to reach a distant school in rural Africa, bikes provide a simple solution to some of our world’s most complex problems.

“We all know that when people ride bikes, great things happen,” said President of PeopleForBikes, Tim Blumenthal. “Bicycling is good for our bodies, our families, our businesses, and our local and global communities.”

Since its inception in 2005, World Bicycle Relief has distributed more than 175,000 bikes to people in developing countries, focusing mainly on rural African communities lacking transportation infrastructure. The bikes are specially designed, high-quality bikes that are assembled locally. The power of mobility created by a single Buffalo Bike is shown to have a positive impact on the lives of five people in a given community. Given this statistic, World Bicycle Relief has positively impacted over 800,000 lives and is aiming to reach 1,000,000 lives impacted during the campaign.

PeopleForBikes is the national bike movement that is bringing individuals, businesses, and communities together to improve bicycling in the U.S—and transform America through bicycling. Currently nearly 800,000 members strong, PeopleForBikes hopes to unite its one-millionth member by the end of 2014.
