Houston Law Firm AZA Named Among City’s Largest Energy Practices
Boutique firm ranked among larger competitors by Houston Business Journal
The list, which appears in the April 25 issue, is based on the number of energy lawyers working in Houston-area firms. This marks the first time AZA has appeared in the listing. AZA tied for the 15th largest energy practice among all Houston firms with 20 lawyers practicing in oil and gas and energy law. The firm has the seventh-highest concentration of energy lawyers with 72 percent of its lawyers practicing in energy law.
AZA has represented some of the nation’s largest energy and oil and gas companies, including Plains All American Pipeline, National Oilwell Varco, Noble Energy Inc. and Apache Corp.
“It is gratifying to see our deep-benched boutique listed among so many longtime, big-name Houston energy firms. We regularly beat bigger firms in court and we belong there,” says AZA founding partner and acclaimed litigator John Zavitsanos (http://www.azalaw.com/
For example, just last year, AZA took over a case from a nationally respected Houston firm with extremely experienced lawyers and devised a new winning strategy for a large energy company in a $93 million real estate contamination suit. AZA reframed the dispute by developing an inventive argument based on contractual analysis and complex federal bankruptcy law.
Mr. Zavitsanos was named one of the top 100 leaders in the Houston Business Journal’s competitive Houston Who’s Who in Energy rankings in 2013. Also named in the Who’s Who energy publication were AZA partners Sean Gorman (http://www.azalaw.com/
