GearBuyer.com announces the Best Duffel Bags And Award Winners
Top choices for Duffel Bags published by GearBuyer.com, including awards for Editor's Choice and Most Popular Duffel Bags.
The duffle bags reviewed were from Patagonia, The North Face, Mammut, Mountain Hardwear, Millet, Simms, Osprey, Brooks Range, Montane, SealLine, and Big Agnes. The duffel bags were evaluated for features, materials used, construction quality, durability, and water resistance.
The Mammut Cargon Duffel was awarded the Editor's Choice Award for its well thought out features and quality construction. "The standout feature is that the backpack shoulder straps have quick disconnect buckles and store into an external pocket." said Craig Delger, who directed the review process for GearBuyer.com. "That along with external pockets at either end of the bag make it ideal for travel."
The Mammut Cargon Duffel was not the most water resistant of the duffel bags tested, but water resistance was not a top concern among the product testers. With five size options ranging from 40 Liters to 140 Liters the Mammut Cargon series of duffel was the favorite bag among all the duffel bags evaluated.
The North Face Base Camp Duffel is the Most Popular selling duffel bag tested. While it is the best selling duffel bag, it was not the best duffel bag evaluated. The North Face has not updated the Base Camp Duffel for at least 12 years. The review staff felt an update was overdue as other bags are much better. The North Face Base Camp Duffel scores points for being durable, lightweight, and minimalist, but loses points for lacking some practical features like external pockets and quick detach backpack shoulder straps. The construction quality of the bag was also below the quality of other bags tested.
The Patagonia Black Hole Duffel came in a very close second place to the Mammut Cargon Duffel. The review team really liked the style of the bag, and its features. The fabric and color options were the most popular with the reviewers. The external pocket and size options makes the Black Hole Duffel an excellent choice for travel, and the padded bottom helps protect the bag's contents. Additional features that were appreciated were the padded side and top handles which make the bag more comfortable to carry if loaded with weight.
The Patagonia Black Hole Duffel is available in several different colors, and is offered in the following sizes: 45L, 60L, 90L, 100L, 120L.
The only negative is that the backpack shoulder straps do not store into an external pocket, a feature that the Mammut Cargon Duffel has that ultimately swayed the editors into awarding it the Editor's Choice Award.
