-- May 2-4, along with the Ventura Visitors & Convention Bureau and the Ventura County Lodging Association, Ventura, CA will be hosting the USA-BMX Seaside Nationals at Ventura BMX in Ventura Community Park. Most likely the largest sporting event Ventura has ever seen, the event is expected to draw about 10,000 attendees over the 3 days. This is the first time the national event has ever come to Ventura (prior years the event was held in Bakersfield, CA) and it is USA BMX's only coastal destination on the national circuit. There will be an estimated 1500 riders ranging in age from 2 years into 60 years or older competing on a world-class level. BMX racing, an Olympic sport, has been increasing in youth participation in recent years and was endorsed last May by First Lady Michelle Obama as part of her "Let's Move!" campaign to combat childhood obesity. The non-ticketed event is completely open to the public and will kick off Friday, May 2 at 5pm. Mayor Cheryl Heitman will be officially welcoming visitors Saturday at 11:00am, just before the biggest race of the event gets underway.
