CAPE CORAL, Fla. - April 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Cape Coral residents no longer need to cross the Caloosahatchee River to receive mental health and substance use screenings and assessments in Fort Myers.

Effective April 28, SalusCare, Inc., the region’s leading provider of treatment for mental health and substance use disorders, will begin offering screenings for first-time, non-emergency patients at its Cape Coral office at 1105 Cultural Park Blvd.

The screenings will be offered for both children and adults on a walk-in basis from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.  There is no cost for the initial screening. Subsequent assessments do have a cost, which is dependent upon family income.

The Cape Coral SalusCare office becomes the third location in Lee County for screenings and assessments for mental health and substance use disorders.  Screenings and assessments also are offered at the Ortiz Campus at 2789 Ortiz Ave. in Fort Myers and at the Evans Campus at 3763 Evans Ave. in Fort Myers.  Hours for screenings are the same as the Cape Coral location.

A grand opening ceremony and open house is planned for Wednesday, May 14, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for business and community leaders.  Cape Coral and Lee County officials are invited to attend, along with residents who want to know more about SalusCare’s services in Cape Coral.

“Our goal is to make access to treatment as easy as possible for our residents.  One in four people has a mental health disorder at some time in their lives and one in eight is impacted by someone with a substance use issue in their family.  We’re here to help,” said SalusCare CEO Kevin B. Lewis.

SalusCare, Inc., is the largest, most comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment program in Southwest Florida, serving 17,000 people per year of all ages from seven locations in Lee County and two in Hendry County.   The non-profit organization offers crisis stabilization, outpatient and residential treatment as well as prevention programming and an Employee Assistance Program for about 50 area companies. The majority of programs are accredited by CARF, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

SalusCare services are not free.  Fees are charged on a sliding scale, based on family income.  In many cases, private insurance is accepted.  SalusCare is a United Way agency.
