MCEE Names State Winners of Missouri Economics Challenge

Missouri students advancing to the Semi-Finals for a chance to compete at Finals and Ring NYSE Closing Bell.
 
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - April 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Student teams from St. Joseph Central High School, St. Joseph, Missouri took home the top prize for the Adam Smith Division, (for advanced placement, international baccalaureate and honors students) and Hannibal High School, Hannibal, Missouri was named the winner of the David Ricardo Division (for students who have only taken a single-semester economics course).  This year’s state winners have outpaced over 10,500 students nationwide; over 2,600 teams from 40 states participated in the preliminary round of state competitions across the country that began last fall and concluded this spring.

As the top-scoring teams in the state, St. Joseph Central and Hannibal will compete in the National Semi-finals for the chance to advance to the 14th Annual National Economics ChallengeSM Finals in New York City, hosted by the Council for Economic Education (CEE).

In the National Economics ChallengeSM, CEE applies the excitement of an athletic competition to academic excellence. Competitions are held at the State, National Semi-Final, and National Final levels in both Adam Smith Division and David Ricardo Division.

The 2014 National Economics ChallengeSM will be held May 18-19 in New York City, culminating in a “quiz-bowl” round at WNET Studios at Lincoln Center. This year’s winners not only take home the trophy, they depart immediately from the studio to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell! \

The Economics Challenge is one of the many programs offered by the Missouri Council on Economic Education,” said MCEE President and CEO Jennifer Collet. “Our goal is simple; we want to build the most economically and financially fluent, aware, and engaged population in the country and the success of these students demonstrate our progress.” The Adam Smith Division winning team members from St. Joseph Central are Joseph Gray, Trenton Humbert, Thomas Hutton, and Zachary Olson.  Their teacher advisor is David Jordan.

The David Ricardo Division winning team members from Hannibal are Joseph Bridges, Eric Hugenberg, Dhaval Katbamna, and Parth Parikh. Their teacher advisor is Kurt Haner.
