Follow on Google News | Leather Treatment for Baseball Gloves - Just In Time!“This is a product we’ve made for our own use for many years,” explains Dan Vorhis, the product’s namesake. “We always had a ton of baseballs and baseball gloves around in the spring, with Little League, you know. A leather glove is much better for a kid to catch with than a plastic glove - leather doesn’t sting like plastic, and the ball is less likely to pop out. Part of our spring ritual was always to dose those gloves up with our beeswax and orange oil concoction, to keep them soft and pliable.” “Uncle Dan’s” is a 100% beeswax and orange oil treatment that is applied to a warm glove. The beeswax and orange oil soak in, waterproofing and softening the leather. “I like the orange oil better than the naphtha found in other leather treatments,” “Some of those old gloves are still floating around, and are still soft and pliable. You put the glove in a warm oven for a half-hour or so, spread the “Uncle Dan’s” on with your fingers - it’s about the consistency of butter. Then wipe off the excess with a rag. Don’t cook the leather, though. The glove should be warm enough to handle - maybe under about 120F. Works for shoes, too.” Uncle Dan’s currently comes in two sizes - a 150 gram and 300 gram size. The beeswax comes from hives in eastern Washington state. The orange oil comes from Florida and California oranges. “If some Little League coach needs a larger size, let me know, says Vorhis. “We have a soft spot in our hearts for Little League coaches!” End
