Volunteer Pilot and Transplant Recipient to lead “Angels” at Executive Airport 5K Race

Fundraising event for Angel Flight Southeast is Orlando’s only “race on the runway

ORLANDO, Fla. - April 14, 2014 - PRLog -- The adrenalin rush that Brad Pierce will feel at Orlando Executive Airport on Saturday, April 19th will be quite different from the tension he felt there about four months ago.

On December 12, 2013, Pierce, a volunteer Angel Flight Southeast pilot, was rushing to take precious cargo to Miami for a life-saving operation. Seventeen year old Aubrie Amrhein, of Clermont, needed the flight to undergo a rare kidney-liver transplant surgery and Pierce was determined to get her there safely.

This weekend, Pierce and Amrhein will kick off the Run for the Angels 5K Race where participants will experience the thrill of running and walking on airport taxiways and runway as commuter planes and private jets taxi, take off and land nearby.

The race benefits Angel Flight Southeast (http://www.angelflightse.org/) which provides free transportation to patients of all ages who need access to life-saving medical appointments they otherwise would not be able to travel to because of distance and cost.

Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to participate in the event. Event registration is limited to 500 participants. Registration is available online at www.runfortheangels5K.com.This is the first year children under age 18 are able to participate.

In addition to the race, participants and their supporters will enjoy a display of aircraft, helicopter rides, photos with the Easter Bunny, a meet and greet with Angel Flight Southeast pilots and much more.
