On December 12, 2013, Pierce, a volunteer Angel Flight Southeast pilot, was rushing to take precious cargo to Miami for a life-saving operation. Seventeen year old Aubrie Amrhein, of Clermont, needed the flight to undergo a rare kidney-liver transplant surgery and Pierce was determined to get her there safely. This weekend, Pierce and Amrhein will kick off the Run for the Angels 5K Race where participants will experience the thrill of running and walking on airport taxiways and runway as commuter planes and private jets taxi, take off and land nearby. The race benefits Angel Flight Southeast (http://www.angelflightse.org/) Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to participate in the event. Event registration is limited to 500 participants. Registration is available online at www.runfortheangels5K.com.This is the first year children under age 18 are able to participate. In addition to the race, participants and their supporters will enjoy a display of aircraft, helicopter rides, photos with the Easter Bunny, a meet and greet with Angel Flight Southeast pilots and much more. About Angel Flight Southeast Angel Flight Southeast is a non-profit volunteer pilot organization that provides free air transportation throughout Florida by private aircraft to distant medical facilities when commercial service is not available, impractical or simply not affordable. Angel Flight Southeast is a member of Air Charity Network, an association of charitable aviation organizations comprised of more than 7,500 pilots and who represent over 90% of all charitable non-emergency flights flown in the nation.
