Dancing for a Cause at Paws in the City’s Top Hat & Tails

DALLAS (April 10, 2014) - Paws in the City is pleased to announce the annual Top Hat & Tails fundraising event will be held on Saturday, April 19 at the Frontiers of Flight Museum. Regarded as one of the most unique and fun events in Dallas, this year’s theme is "Take Me On" and the 1980's. Celebrities and animal lovers from across DFW are dusting off their eighties gear in preparation for a night of Dancing with the Stars.

Robert “Skip” Trimble will be presented with the St. Francis of Assisi Award for his longtime dedication to the protection of animals. When the Dallas native and SMU law school graduate became involved in the animal advocacy community in 1992, it was a turning point for Texas animals. Two decades later, if you examine the changes in the way our laws and law enforcement treat animals, you can actually see Skip’s heart. He has put his principles and his considerable legal talents to work through the Texas Humane Legislation Network, the Metroplex Animal Coalition, the Animal Shelter Commission, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, and the Dallas County District Attorney’s office, where he was instrumental in establishing an Animal Cruelty Prosecutor.

Before the evening begins, guests are encouraged to stop by North Shore Animal League’s Tour for Life adoption event from 3pm to 8pm in the Frontiers of Flight parking lot. Adoptable cats and dogs from Paws in the City and Dallas Animal Services will be greeting guests and looking for a “furever” home. The evening will then kick off with cocktails, hosted by Heinekein, Smirnoff, Bulleit and Legend of the Vine, and a chance to bid on an exciting array of items during the silent auction. As guests enter the museum, they can capture the beginning of a night they will not want to forget in the #tagmebro photo booth.

While guests enjoy a three-course meal catered by Wendy Krispin, the host, Dallas Cowboy legend Preston Pearson, and the Emcee, Emmy award winning broadcaster Scott Murray, will lead a lively auction featuring entertainment and travel packages.

Once the lucky winners have claimed their auction items, the moment guests have been anticipating all night will follow: the Dancing with the Stars competition for the Lucy Trophy. Celebrity judges, including Dallas Cowboys legend Drew Pearson, WFAA sportscaster George Riba, and owner of Arthur Murray Studios DFW Claudia Marshall, will be voting for the best celebrity and professional dancer duo. The following celebrities, decked out in actual Dancing with the Stars costumes, will be performing:

§  Jolene Devito, KTXD Broadcaster and Talent Coach, dancing The Hustle with Justin Brown

§  Teresa Frosini, CBS 11 Anchor and Reporter, dancing Jitterbug  with Nicholas Stevens

§  JP Piccinini, Real Estate Mogul and Entrepreneur, dancing a medley with Lindsey Jordan

§  Carol Roberts, Community Relations & Partnership Marketing Manager at Albertsons, dancing the Rumba with and Paul Rodriguez

§  Amy Vanderoef, Host of WFAA’s Good Morning Texas, dancing Tango/Cha Cha with Ryan West

§  Brooke Williamson, ESPN Sideline Reporter, swing dancing with Ian Kelle

Guests will have a chance to weigh in on their pick for the best dancer before the winner is presented with the much sought-after Lucy Trophy. Following, guests will take over the dance floor and show off their eighties dance moves while they groove to hits such as Michael Jackson’s Thriller, early Madonna, Joan Jett and maybe even the Dukes of Hazard. For those who prefer shopping over dancing, Paws in the City will be selling its “bling” merchandise and tickets to the Resounding Harmony’s “Heartfelt Paws, Tails of Love” concert in June.

The night is guaranteed to be filled with laughter, excitement and most importantly, fulfillment. Guests will leave knowing that they supporting a valuable mission. Proceeds from this event will have a direct impact on reducing the number of homeless cats and dogs across DFW. Paws in the City reaches nearly half of its yearly fundraising goal from this one event alone. The all-volunteer organization serves dogs and cats from Dallas Animal Services by providing medical treatment, sterilization, training, and temporary and permanent homes. Direct donations will also support the Landes Training Fund, the Wyly Emergency Medical Fund, the Fairy Godmother Fund for needy families, and the free community spay program “Fixin’ to Save.” Thanks to our generous sponsors, this event has been made possible for seven years in a row. If you do not want to feel left out from an unforgettable evening, please visit https://pawstx.auctionreg.org/registration. Hurry, it is one of the hottest tickets in town and guaranteed to sell out.
