By: Jarrett Iovine - Your Personal South Florida CFI The Bahamas is a beautiful country - a set of islands that offer a wide variety of incredible scenic flights and island hopping. As a student, private, instrument, or even commercial pilot, you might already know the ins and outs of your own state or region, but the Bahamas is a whole different world of flying. Since it counts as an international flight and you cross the US ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zone), you will have a lot of paperwork to fill out and to know about all the procedures of ensuring a safe and bureaucratic- Not only that, the Bahamas uses ICAO phraseology and procedures and if you are flying into Nassau or Freeport using instruments, you'll have to know how to read Jeppesen charts pretty well. After all of that, is it worth it? Definitely, without a doubt. Something about flying for only 30 minutes landing at an uncontrolled airport in the middle of the ocean in such sweet isolation, taking a ferry to the other island with long white sand beaches and turquoise blue water makes you feel not only like a real pilot, but like you landed in Atlantis or somewhere special.
