Pasadena Artist Ray Turner launches new Website showcasing his Population Exhibition

PASADENA, Calif. - April 11, 2014 - PRLog -- The artist Ray Turner, renowned for his portrait and landscape paintings, has launched a new website dedicated exclusively to his traveling Population exhibition: Rayturnerpopulation.com (http://rayturnerpopulation.com/). The new website features photographs of the exhibition in museums throughout the country, including the Long Beach Museum of Art,  Pasadena Museum of California Art,  Akron Art Museum,  Wichita Museum of Art, and the Museum of Glass, to name a few.

Turner conceived of Population as an evolving, community-engaged traveling exhibition. Population is a work in progress, wherein Turner adds new portraits of people from the community in which the exhibition is installed.  In describing the exhibition, Art critic Edward Goldman wrote that “the artist breaks through the academic constraints of realistic portraiture and opts for wild, gestural, semi-abstract images, threatening to shatter the very glass on which they're painted.” Online visitors can see examples of these portraits on the new website as well as on the artist’s Pinterest page, pinterest.com/rayturnerart.

“It’s never the same exhibition twice,” says Turner. “I visit the communities before the exhibition goes up, photograph a cross section of the populace and incorporate that new group into the growing body of work. I also host workshops with local youth, artists and educators. Each exhibition is a unique installation, designed specifically for the respective museums hosting the exhibit.”

The website, Rayturnerpopulation.com, includes a list of links to articles and reviews of Turner’s Population. It makes it easy for museums who wish to host the exhibition to see how it has been presented in the past and to contact the artist’s representatives. Mr. Turner worked closely with Alhambra-based, J6 Creative to produce the new website.
